At the PLASA show in London Alcons Audio will be exhibiting her complete portfolio, from point-source, through line-source to line-array solutions, all based around proprietary and multiple-patented pro-ribbon transducer technology.

On display will be the very successful LR7 micro line-array system, sized 3 CD’s wide and 1,5 CD’s high, also be shown with ACO™ Architect Colour Option: Alcons colour program to seamlessly integrate systems into any interior through 180+ RAL colours.

Following the UK preview at the ABTT show, the BC543 cardioid subwoofer will be shown. This self-contained triple 18” subwoofer enables cardioid pattern control, when driven by the Digital Drive Processor™ in the ALC amplified loudspeaker controller.
Premiering in the UK at the PLASA is the BQ211: a high-power compact subwoofer system, featuring an all-carbon-coned 21” woofer with oversized motor structure in a double-tuned bandpass configuration. Very high-output low frequency reinforcement from a relatively small footprint.

The LR7 micro line-array was recently tested in German magazine Production Partner. Although published only in German language, the tests of PP are highly regarded worldwide as objective and very thorough.

As a result, manufacturers see a positive conclusion of their product as a reward and recognition for all design and development work done. And so are we: With conclusions like “…The LR7 handles it very well though: in spite of the large range of 0° to 15° between the speakers the beam of the main maximum always stays very coherent…” and “…..the usual effect of opening at higher frequencies, that can often be noticed even from 10 kHz upwards, does not occur here thanks to the pro-ribbon technology, which makes the isobarics terrifically straight up to the test limit of 20 kHz…”. To round off the positive test conclusion: “To keep it simple: the LR7 offers excellent sound in every situation and performs easily with smooth, but still brilliant highs. This positive behaviour persists even when approaching the power limits.”

We could not have put it any better..

In March, a new theatre tour saw its premiere in Amsterdam’s Royal Theatre Carré, called “Daughters of Africa”. The sound is provided by Kater audiotechniek and Van Dijk SoundSupport.

Daughters of Africa is the successor of the African Mamas tour from 2009, that attracted more than 175.000 visitors. For this new show, twelve young women were selected from eight different African countries: Their diversity and cultural backgrounds are the theme of this vibrant show, accompanied by a live band.

For the première in the 1,800-seat theatre, attended by Princess Máxima, The Ribbon Network member Jan van Dijk deployed a large Alcons system, consisting of 30 units LR14 ultra-compact line-array systems.

Two main clusters were built upon twelve units LR14 line-array and four units LR14B line-array bass each. Two ground stacked arrays of three LR14 units and two SR9 acted as in-fill speakers. The complete system was driven by DDP-completed ALC2 and ALC4 amplified loudspeaker controllers.

“The very well-controlled projection, combined with the outstanding sonic performance made the LR14 the right system for this show”, according to Jan: “Looking at the positive comments we received, Alcons was again the right choice.”

Alcons can look back on a very successful “premier” participation in the annual German cinema convention (“Kino Kongress”) in Baden-Baden, with her C-series cinema sound systems.

Just as it was Alcons’ first time in Baden-Baden, to get to know the cinema exhibitors better, it was also the first time for many visitors to see, meet and hear Alcons.

The interested trade audience was shown a.o. the CR4 cinema system with pro-ribbon line-array technology, as well as the ultra-slim CR1 front system with a depth of only 18cm.

And, last but not least the CRMS cinema reference system was demonstrated live, to enable visitors to get an idea of Alcons’ Digital Cinema ready sound systems.

Tom Back and Carsten Albrecht were more than happy with the result: Carsten: “we received a very positive response throughout the show, as well as on the well-attended Alcons presentation of pro-ribbon technology in Digital Cinema.” The presentation took place during the “technology panel”, informing about the latest trends and innovations in cinema exhibition.

Carsten continues: “Alcons will be back in Baden-Baden in 2011 !”.
